Modernization

In class this week we watched the documentary about teaching women of lower/3rd world countries how put together a solar panel and make light through solar energy in their villages. Also so they would be able to teach other women to construct a solar panel and so on. This reminded me about Feminism a lot and how they are westernizing these countries with having women go to work and be the income for the families instead of the fathers. Which in the Western regions is has become very popular for women to be the main income in families.

I feel as this picture shows that women work and show more power and strengths no matter how much money they bring in they still will be more powerful and show up the man.

Fear-- Pit Bulls

I wanted to talk a little bit about the fear topic we have touched on. I picked the fear of pit bulls. It is a good topic for me to talk about because I myself have one. This is really similar to things and issues we as people in society have in people. Just like poverty is looked at by media sources as we have talked about before, pit bulls are looked bad with media sources as well. The breed pit bulls have been a big fear upon the U.S for a couple years now, due to reports of attacks or dog fighting. But little do people remember the good of this breed and how they were know as the family dog back in the day, as shown in the movie The little rascals. Also every breed has their own defects just as all people have bad things about them.

I found this article about the fear upon a pit bull attack the media used

Also I just want to share this picture from the movie The Little Rascals

Symbolic Interaction

In class we talked about the news report we watched on obesity. Which really opened my eyes once again to what society does to people, and how we judge people on this type of interaction with them. Society shapes so much in our lives. Just as we were watching the news report they decided to only show the healthy fit peoples whole body, while they would only show the obese or overweight peoples body from neck down. This is wrong in many ways, because why if one person is different should they not be shown fully, are we trying to make them feel bad about who they are? Yes I agree obesity is caused by peoples habits and such... but what about those people who are born with thyroid issues or other medical issues that they can not help their weight. Also when they pin pointed and picked the states that were the most obese and then the ones that were the most fit to compare to each other to compare, which yes you need something to compare, but the issue just how we turn each one of these comparatives into a interaction between the things socially, and it sticks with it for a long time. We are now just going to socially accept that because of this news report people of Colorado are all fit and people of Mississippi are all obese and overweight. This is shaping peoples perception of how people of the south are, which is symbolic interaction.

Here is example for vegetarian people, and how we have symbolic interaction about one vegetarian they must all be the same. So what i get from this is that if you eat no meat you will be skinny like all the other vegetarians, which is just a symbolic interaction theory because most vegetarians are not skinny because they do not eat meat.

Sociopoly

When we played Sociopoly in class and I was in group one which was the Minority groups and I had the lowest rate of poverty which were the African Americans. This really opened my eyes how society today is so unfair for people who are already in poverty. In the game it was so hard for me to get around the board without getting finned or paying rent or going to jail. Life was getting ruff and I tried so hard but felt like I was never getting a break. Even when I would get a chance card it would be a bad thing on the card like owe money to another team or go to jail. It felt like the world was against me. This reminded me about part of the reading 29 where they were talking about the African Americans going to jail and having higher rates of jail time, and one thing that they made a conclusion on was that they are committing more crimes, and they are prone to more crimes because of the environments they are in and the communities that they live in are making it easier to commit a crime and even if it is a smaller crime they will get blamed and punished more then any other individual.
