Gender within the Classrooms

As I was reading the readings assigned to us for class, Reading 22 really caught my eye, specifically because I myself work in a preschool and see the day to day interaction between the teachers and students, either boy or girl. I didn't have a chance after reading this to actually look and observe the preschool I work at and see if it can relate to this reading, but I definitely will be next time I am there. This reading really caught me off guard because I never thought of this being actually a thing in a classroom, but it does make sense. As is said in the reading one teacher treated a girl student differently because she can be fragile and doesn't want her to cry or feel sad about doing wrong or something not right. I was just blown away because the way I think of it is, they are a student and need to be disciplined and told what is wrong if it is wrong no matter there age or gender. Yes i agree the way you approach to tell the kids they did wrong is different for every kid, but never the gender, I don't see how a preschool age kid should be treated differently because of gender.

This picture is a great image to show how each Gender is and how it reflects the class room.

  1. I really enjoyed reading chapter 22. I was also very surprised that gender still can be a problem in the classrooms. I almost feel as though gender inequality may be a bigger issue in the younger classes such as elementary school. I am surprised as to why teachers can let male students shout out answers but reprimand female students. But looking back at my younger days I do remember situations that were similar. I will also start paying more attention while in situations to see if I can notice any gender inequality. I like the picture you chose for your blog!

  2. The picture totally defines men and womens brains. I think at times we forget conciously how different we are made to be and how differently our brains work overall.
